Gorilla tracking Tips 

  • Waterproof walking shoes or hiking boots are for tracking
  • Gardening gloves for protection against stinging plants
  • Long trousers and long-sleeved sweaters or shirts while in the forest.
  • Photography is only allowed with a flash off so as not to scare the Gorillas
  • Porters are available to help you with your bags at a small fee
  • Carry enough drinking water because you never know the location of the Gorillas from the start of your hike. Be prepared for long walks just in case
  • Eating, drinking, and smoking near the gorillas is forbidden. The ranger will always communicate when it’s appropriate for you to do so.
  • Bwindi being a tropical forest, it can rain anytime so we encourage you to carry a rain jacket.

Extra Notes

Accommodation named in the itinerary is based on availability during the preferred travel dates. In case of non-availability, similar types of accommodation will be recommended. 

Gorilla permits cannot be confirmed until a booking/ payment has been made by the clients.

This Safari can be organized throughout the year based on the travel dates of the clients and the availability of Gorilla permits. It can as well be tailored to fit the tastes and preferences of the clients.

The Safari is done in 4WD Safari cars with a pop-up roof for Game Viewing. Each client has a window seat for better travel moments.

Day 1: Arrival in Uganda

Arrival into Uganda and pick up from the Entebbe international airport for transfer to the hotel which is 10 minutes away from the airport. Later we shall have a dinner where a briefing will be made about the Safari.

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

Check out from your Hotel in Entebbe at 7:00 am for the drive to Murchison falls National Park. It will take us roughly 4 hours to reach Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for Rhino Trekking before proceeding to the park. ZZiwa is dedicated to protecting endangered Rhinos by giving them home just like in the wild. The Rhino tracking takes approximately 1 to 2 hours. After Rhino trekking proceeds for lunch at Kabalega Dinners before continuing with the drive to the lodge which involves some dusty areas.

Note: There is a one-hour domestic flight with Aerolink available from Entebbe to Murchison Falls National Park on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. If clients are to take the flying option, that means the Rhinos will be skipped.

 

Day 3: Tour of Murchison Falls National Park

Wake up to an early morning Game drive in the park starting at 6:30 am giving you the opportunity to site Lions, Elephants, Buffalos and many other animals hidden away in the beauty of Nature (nature can’t be tamed, provided the day is good we shall see all the animals). At 1:40 pm proceed for a boat trip on the gorgeous Victoria Nile with an opportunity to view Hippos, Crocodiles and a number of bird species which takes roughly 3 hours. You can’t miss taking pictures of the Murchison Falls known as the World’s most powerful waterfalls where the Nile from 50 metres squeezes through a 6-metre gorge falling 40 metres with a thunderous roar. For the safety of the clients, boats are not allowed to sail close to the falls.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale National Park

After breakfast, set off at 8:30 am to Kibale National Park driving through various markets and communities. The drive combines both dusty bumpy roads and tarmacked roads and there is nothing much to see on this drive apart from mingling with locals in the communities.

Note: A one-hour flight is available from Murchison Falls to Kasese Airstrip on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Clients will later go onto a 3 hours road drive to the lodge in Kibale.

 

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking & afternoon community experience

In the morning at 7:15 am drive to the park offices for briefing in preparation for Chimpanzee tracking. This takes roughly 1 – 2 hours tracking the chimps depending on their location. Clients will spend 1 hour observing and taking pictures of the Chimps after which, they will return to the lodge to have a hot lunch. Clients are as well advised to have enough drinking water.

Later in the afternoon, clients will go for a community experience which involves visiting a herd’s man family to be taken through what cattle means to the people in that region, how they milk locally and how they generally associate with their cattle. Other areas to be visited will involve local coffee processing at home, making banana beer and gin, visit the medicine man who is the most respected individual in the community, and a women’s association making crafts.

Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, start the journey at 10:00 am to Queen Elizabeth national park which takes roughly 4 to 5 hours.

Day 7: Tour of Queen Elizabeth NP & Bush Breakfast

In the morning at 6:30 am, start off your game drive in the park. Queen Elizabeth boasts of one of the highest biodiversity ratings of any game park or reserve in the world. Located on the floor of the Albertine Rift Valley south-west of Kasese, its vegetation comprises of savannah, acacia, euphorbia trees and large papyrus swamps. A number of over 90 mammal species and 600 bird species make this territory and great tourist destination. The maramagambo forest houses a large selection of monkeys and birds with flamingos on the crater lakes. The morning Game drive provides excellent opportunity to see lions, elephants, Leopards, Topi and many other animals, however, the fact that nature cannot be tamed, we can’t promise 100% that you will see all the animals. Later have some time for a bush breakfast before transfer back to the lodge for refreshment and lunch at around 12:30 pm before transfer for the boat cruise at 1:30 pm

In the afternoon, take part in the boat trip on the Mweya Peninsula along the Kazinga channel where you will see crocodiles, hippos and birds that inhabit the Shoeline. The boat cruise takes roughly 2 hours.

Optional Activities:

  • Night Game Drive can also be done at 100 USD per vehicle and 20 USD for each spotlight to be used during the night game drive. This gives you an opportunity to encounter a few nocturnal animals that are active during the night. However, nature can’t be tamed and it dictates what kind of animals you will encounter.
  •  Lion tracking: This is an off beaten experience in the park which gives you an opportunity to encounter with the lions in their natural habitat. Together with a team of researchers, the tracking gives you depth information about the lions, their feeding and lifestyle in the habitant. The lion tracks cost 50 USD and booking must be done as early as possible because of the high demand        
  •  Chimpanzee trekking. This is done in Kyambura Gorge at 50 USD per person. It provides an unmatched chimpanzee trekking experience. It is an underground forest where a community of 11 wild chimps swing from tree to tree with abandon. The experience takes roughly 1 to 6 hours how it’s a 50% chance of seeing the chimpanzees not like in Kibale National Park.

Day 8: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park ( Buhoma)

After breakfast, start the journey to Bwindi Impenetrable national park at 8:30 am through savannah grasslands in Queen Elizabeth National Park. It takes roughly 3 hours on an unpaved road to reach the Ishasha area. We shall do a drive for approximately 1 hour in search of the tree-climbing lions and if we are lucky we shall be able to find pride. Later head for lunch at Savanah hotel before proceeding to Buhoma. It will take you approximately 4 hours from the lunch stop to reach the lodge.

Day 9: Visit the Gorilla in the Impenetrable Forest

After an early breakfast, at 7:15 am drive to the information centre with packed lunch boxes to prepare for the Gorilla tracking. After a briefing from the Ranger guide, traverse to the Gorilla sanctuary to start tracking these lovely creatures. The time taken to find the Gorillas is not certain as it depends on their location. You may be surprised to find them just 15 minutes into the tracking or you may walk an hour and on but once you encounter these animals, you will spend 1 hour observing and taking pictures.  The time you spend observing these endangered species is worth a trip to any part of the world and can never be forgotten.  Clients are expected to have enough drinking water, good hiking shoes, rain jackets in case it rains, gloves if necessary, long-sleeved clothes.

 

Day 10: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast, you will set off for your journey to Lake Bunyonyi at 9:00 am one of the best places to be in Uganda for a one night before proceeding back to Entebbe. It takes us roughly 3 hours and 30 minutes to reach Arcadia Cottages.  Lake Bunyonyi is undoubtedly the loveliest lake in Uganda with 29 islands surrounded by steep terraced hillsides reminiscent of parts of Nepal and also appears on the 5000 Shilling note for Uganda.  Bunyonyi becomes more magical in the morning as the mist rises off the placid water.

Day 11: Transfer back to Entebbe

After spending time in the land of the famous Gorillas and the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi, start your journey at 9:00 am to Entebbe with a lunch stop at Igongo cultural centre. Clients will have another stop at the Uganda Equator to take pictures. We shall later proceed to Entebbe with two travel options available.

Note: To cut down on the long hour drive, a night stop can be organized either at Emburara Farm for a typical luxury farm experience with Ankole Traditional Cattle OR Lake Mburo National Park.

A 3 hours domestic flight is available from Kisoro to Entebbe International Airport once every day.

 

Day 12. Departure

Transfer to Entebbe International Airport for the flight back home carrying memories about Uganda along with you. The hotel is 10 minutes’ drive away from the Airport. (Breakfast)
